Strange and Massive Fish Found in the Perak River
Ever watched River Monsters? What would you say if we told you there is a massive fish, nearly 5 feet long—as tall as an adult human—swimming in the Perak River? It is true, and it is no wonder why many anglers love fishing along the nearly 400km stretch of the Perak River.
It resembles a Bighead Carp (Ikan Tongsan), but what is strange is its pinkish color. It is possible that this fish is an albino species. If you have any information regarding the photos of this fish, please leave a comment to help correct the facts provided. Since no one knows about this fish, the fisherman was quite hesitant to remove it from the fish trap as he had never encountered such a fish in the Perak River before. The fish was eventually purchased by a teacher for a 'moreh' (late-night meal during Ramadan) feast.
If the one on the right is a black Bighead Carp, the one on the left is unknown as it has never been seen by the local residents in the Perak River waters. The fish's eyes are quite bulging, and its size is rather large.
Looking at the condition of this fish's tail, anglers in the Perak River area are certain that there are even larger fish in the river that attempted to eat it. This is what fuels the passion of anglers to keep trying to catch large and strange fish in the Perak River.
In the old days, there were also stories about a white crocodile in a tributary of the Perak River, the Larut River. The Larut River is quite famous for the tale of a white crocodile said to have originated from the story of a Ghee Hin commander named Ah Choong. It is said that Ah Choong had learned Malay martial arts and promised never to use them against the Malay people. After breaking that promise, he jumped into the river and transformed into a white crocodile.
