Ramly Burger is a brand that is the pride of all Malaysians. This is because it is synonymous with the Malaysian public's acceptance of the name Ramly for Western-style food, especially when it comes to burgers.
The story began in 1978, when our country was in an uproar over the issue of whether burger meat was halal or haram. So, Ramly Bin Mokni, who was a meat cutter, took this opportunity to make and sell burger patties from home with the help of his wife, Shala Siah Binti Abdul Manap.
Armed with a capital of RM2,000 at the time, the couple made burger patties manually without the help of any machinery, using only knives at their flat in Jalan Haji Hussein, Kampung Baru.
It is said that at the beginning of their business, they received little response because the Malaysian public at that time did not enjoy eating burgers. However, thanks to the patience and perseverance of Ramly Bin Mokni and his wife, they continued to do business and opened a burger stall near the Chow Kit area.
Since then, the demand for Ramly Burger meat has increased day by day. Starting with 200 patties a day, they later began receiving orders of up to 3,000 patties a day.
In 1980, they started a company, and just four years later, they successfully opened a factory in Bandar Tun Razak, producing about 10,000 patties a day.
The biggest challenge Ramly Burger faced when starting out was that Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) rejected their loan application on the grounds that not many Malaysians ate burgers, but Bank Pembangunan eventually approved their application.
Today, Ramly Burger's annual sales reach RM1 billion, and the meat used daily approaches 1.5 tons to produce various types of Ramly brand products. Now, the Ramly brand no longer just produces burger patties; it also produces sausages, nuggets, meatballs, minced meat, chili sauce, and much more.
