The Significant Events Behind the Lost Kota Lumut
A very important event occurred during the reign of Sultan Mahmud II, the 16th Sultan of Perak, in which the first Sultan of Selangor received recognition as the ruler of that state, thereby breaking away from the authority of the Johor-Riau Kingdom.
This historically significant event took place on Perak soil at Kota Lumut. Kota Lumut is said to be the primary witness to the story of Raja Lumu, who was installed as the Sultan of Selangor with the title Sultan Salahuddin by Sultan Mahmud II (the 16th Sultan of Perak) in 1766. This important event is recorded in the book written by Raja Chulan regarding the history of Perak, titled Misa Melayu. The book explains the sovereignty and greatness of the Sultan of Perak, to the extent that Raja Lumu, of Bugis descent, was willing to come and pay homage to Sultan Mahmud. Raja Chulan's writing also describes Sultan Mahmud II, the 16th Sultan of Perak, as someone who was open to the opinions of his subordinates, generous, and kind-hearted, allowing the late Sultan of Perak to bestow honors and recognition upon Raja Lumu as the first Sultan of Selangor.
More than 250 years after this significant event in the history of Perak and Selangor, a major question remains: where is the actual location of Kota Lumut? According to an old map that our acquaintance, Irwan Norddin, noticed, the position of Kota Lumut might be nearby and not far from Pulau Indera Sakti.
As we are aware, Pulau Indera Sakti is quite famous in the history of Perak as the administrative center for Sultan Iskandar Dzulkarnain (the 15th Sultan of Perak). The old map above also vaguely shows the position of Kota Lumut, located adjacent to Sungai Buaya.
On our own initiative, as lovers of culture and history, we have collaborated with several acquaintances and friends to carry out a mission to find the actual location and position of Kota Lumut.
