The 11th Sultan of Deli Was the Grandson of the 26th Sultan of Perak
The Sultan of Deli is the primary ruler of the Deli Sultanate in North Sumatra, Indonesia. The title for the ruler of Deli is known as Sri Paduka Tuanku Sultan. If a Sultan of Deli passes away, the throne is succeeded by his son, which is distinctly different from the practice in Perak.
However, the Deli Sultanate was once synonymous with the Perak Sultanate lineage, with ancestral ties closely linked to the late Sultan Abdullah II (the 26th Sultan of Perak), who ruled Perak from 1874 to 1877. The story began on Monday, July 3, 1893, at exactly 10:00 AM. At that time, a royal customary ceremony was held for the Deli royal family. Tengku Amaluddin ascended a 7-tiered dais in the grand hall of Istana Maimoon. Then, 12 cannon shots were fired to officially mark the title of Tengku Besar bestowed by his father, the Sultan of Deli, when Tengku Amaluddin was 16 years old. Six years later, the late Sultan Ma'moen Al Rasyid (the 9th Sultan of Deli) expressed his wish to marry off his son, the Tengku Besar. When Tengku Amaluddin reached the age of 22, he married the daughter of the late Sultan Abdullah II (the 26th Sultan of Perak), named Tengku Maheran. The wedding ceremony was celebrated with great festivities alongside the people of Deli.

The festivities lasted for 40 days. The daughter of the late Sultan Abdullah II (the 26th Sultan of Perak) was then titled Tengku Mahsuri of Deli. In 1900, Sultan Ma’moen Al Rasyid (the 9th Sultan of Deli) handed over all state duties to Tengku Amaluddin.

On the auspicious date of August 20, 1900, Tengku Mahsuri gave birth to a prince named Tengku Osman Al Sani Perkasa Alamsyah. When Tengku Osman was 7 months and 26 days old, on the night of Tuesday, April 16, 1901, Tengku Mahsuri passed away at the young age of 21. The remains of Tengku Mahsuri were transported by train to the Al-Osmani Mosque located in Pekan Labuhan, North Sumatra, to be buried there. On the day of the passing of the late Sultan Ma’moen Al Rasyid Perkasa Alamsyah on September 11, 1924, before his father's remains were taken from the palace, the Tengku Besar was proclaimed as the Sultan of Deli with the title Tuanku Sultan Amaluddin Sani Perkasa Alamsyah.

When Tengku Osman reached the age of 25, his father, Sultan Amaluddin Sani Perkasa Alamsyah (the 10th Sultan of Deli), wished to marry him off. On May 7, 1925, a royal marriage took place between Tengku Osman and Raja Aminah, who was the daughter of

, the Raja Di-Hilir of Perak. The wedding was held with great splendor and celebrated by two kingdoms, Deli and Perak. After the passing of the late Sultan Amaluddin Al Sani Perkasa Alamsyah (the 10th Sultan of Deli), Tengku Osman, as the eldest son, held the hereditary throne of the Deli kingdom. Thus began the era of the grandson of the Sultan of Perak in Deli under Sultan Osman Al Sani Perkasa Alamsyah (the 11th Sultan of Deli) in 1945.

Therefore, the 11th Sultan of Deli was the son of Tengku Maheran and the grandson of the late Sultan Abdullah II (the 26th Sultan of Perak) and his second wife, Inche’ Rahsiah Busu, who passed away on March 29, 1891, while in exile in the Seychelles. The consort of the late Sultan Osman Al Sani Perkasa Alamsyah (the 11th Sultan of Deli) was also a member of the Perak royal family. To this day, the Deli state government continues to be led by heirs who are descendants of the Perak royal family.
