For our loyal readers at orangperak.com, the individual in question is none other than the late Major Zainal Abdul Rashid, who was awarded the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa medal on June 1, 1977, for his battle against communist terrorists. The late Major Zainal Abdul Rashid's bravery in battle against communist terrorists is undeniable, as he courageously fought and witnessed the killing of 6 communist terrorists. Unfortunately, Major Zainal Abdul Rashid also lost his life in that battle. The story of the Operation Gubir II battle took place on July 15, 1976, in Gubir, Kedah, when the late Major Zainal Abdul Rashid and his five men successfully tracked a group of 15 communist terrorists after following their movements for several days.
While fighting and successfully taking down two terrorists with random gunfire, the late Major Zainal Abdul Rashid charged bravely toward the enemy while encouraging his men not to fear and to keep fighting.
At the same time, an injured female communist terrorist threw a hand grenade, which wounded the late Major Zainal Abdul Rashid. His extraordinary courage and high leadership qualities ignited the fighting spirit of his other men to attack the enemy.
In the end, they succeeded in killing six of the 15 terrorists and seized a 60 mm mortar, seven rifles, ammunition, bombs, and other equipment. Sadly, the late Major Zainal Abdul Rashid also fell in the battle. A year later, the late Major Zainal Abdul Rashid was posthumously awarded the Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa medal on June 1, 1977.
