The Over 100-Year-Old Baitul Rahmah in Kuala Kangsar
Located near the Ubudiah Royal Mosque, there stands an old house that remains beautifully preserved, with a design so exquisite it is sure to leave you in awe, even though it looks somewhat weathered by time. This house is known as Rumah Baitul Rahmah, which was built in 1911 and is now over 100 years old.
For your information, the original owner of this magnificent house was the son of Sultan Idris I, YAM Raja Harun Al Rashid ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris Murshidul Azzam Shah. Currently, the house is left vacant after being occupied by his heirs in the past. Nevertheless, the condition of the house and its surrounding area is still well-maintained and tidy.
YAM Raja Harun Al Rashid ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris Murshidul Azzam Shah was appointed as Raja Kechil Sulong in 1918 and served as the Malay Secretary to DYMM Sultan Iskandar Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris Murshidul Azzam Shah.
Raja Harun Al Rashid had a deep passion for the art of carving and owned several palaces with highly admired designs, such as Baitul Aman, Baitul Rahmah, and Baitul Anor.
