It certainly brings back old memories for anyone who has ever lived in the state of Perak when we reminisce about the Medan Kidd bus terminal in Ipoh, which has been operating for a long time.

The Medan Kidd Bus Terminal was one of the earliest bus terminals in Ipoh once it was opened to the public. Anyone who traveled to Ipoh by public bus has surely set foot in this Medan Kidd bus terminal. For your information, loyal readers of orangperak.com, this Medan Kidd bus terminal has been open to the public since 1938.

Medan Kidd Bus Terminal

Its location is on Jalan Tun Abdul Razak. What you might not know is that the name Jalan Tun Abdul Razak was previously Kidd Road Station, which replaced the original name, Hill Street. Kidd Road Station was named after a British officer.

George Montgomery Kidd

Major George Montgomery Kidd is the name of the British officer in question. The bus terminal was named after Major George Montgomery Kidd to avoid confusion with the existence of another bus terminal on Jalan Tanjung Rambutan in Ipoh. So, the bus terminal was named after Major George Montgomery Kidd because it was near the corner of Kidd Road Station at that time before it changed its name to Jalan Tun Abdul Razak.

Medan Kidd Bus Terminal

In the early stages of its opening as the main bus terminal in Ipoh, the Medan Kidd bus terminal was built only of planks and wood, unlike today. For your information, it was only in 1960 that a brick building was constructed and erected to upgrade it from its original state. What you see today is the same brick building that has remained since it was upgraded in 1960.

General bus

The first bus companies to operate at the Medan Kidd bus terminal were Red Buses and Green Buses, or better known as Bas General. In 1960, when the Medan Kidd bus terminal upgrade project was completed, new companies emerged such as Ipoh Omnibus Co, Kinta Omnibus Co, General Omnibus, and Reliance Co. Today, what we see is that Perak Transit and

Rapid

are the pillars of public bus transport operations in Perak.
