The Megat Lineage in Perak

Megat Terawis was the Bendahara of Perak, titled Orang Kaya Bendahara Paduka Raja. He was the son of the Daulat Yang Dipertuan Pagar Ruyung, and his descendants were the holders of the Bendahara office in Perak.

One of his descendants, Megat Menjanas, who was the Orang Kaya Bendahara Paduka Seri Maharaja, married the daughter of Sultan Muzaffar Shah II, the Sultan of Perak, named Raja Shah Alam Sayong. Megat Terawis came to Perak alongside Sultan Muzaffar Syah I from Kampar to establish a kingdom there. After some time, a dispute arose between the Sultan and Tun Saban, which led to war.

Sultan Muzaffar Syah I offered the position of Bendahara to anyone who could take the life of Tun Saban, and the challenge was accepted by Megat Terawis. Megat Terawis was subsequently appointed to replace Tun Mahammad as the Bendahara of Perak with the title Bendahara Paduka Raja. From that day on, those of the Megat lineage would hold the position of Bendahara in Perak. During the reign of Sultan Iskandar Zulkarnain, the 15th Sultan of Perak from 1756 to 1770, Bendahara Megat Abu Kasim resigned from his position and surrendered it to the Sultan due to dissatisfaction with the Sultan's decision to build a palace on Pulau Indera Sakti, which was under the Bendahara's jurisdiction. Since then, the position of Bendahara of Perak has been held by those of royal blood.

The descendants of Megat Terawis began to migrate from Perak Tengah, specifically from Kampung Gajah, to Kuala Kangsar because the Sultan of Perak's palace had been relocated there. The tomb of Megat Terawis is now located in Kampung Gajah, Perak, on the right bank of the Perak River. The signage and the tomb structure were built by the Perak Museum Department.
