This plant, which cost RM1.8 billion, is situated on a 518-hectare site and is part of the Proton City project, which covers an area of 4,000 acres.
Background of the Plant's Construction
The construction of this plant was originally planned to open in August 1998, but it had to be postponed due to the Asian financial crisis that struck in 1997. However, with strong determination and spirit, construction of the plant resumed in 2001 and was finally completed in 2003.
