The Former Home of Actress Norizan in Teluk Intan
Noorizan Mohd Noor was a highly popular actress and the former wife of the 32nd Sultan of Perak, the late Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah, which indirectly made her a former consort of the state of Perak.
For those who admire Ramlee Puteh, better known as P. Ramlee, he had a family connection to the state of Perak, as his second wife was Noorizan Mohd Noor. Norizan's relationship with the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee shocked the nation at the time because Norizan was the wife of the late Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah. Consequently, she was divorced by the Sultan and subsequently married P. Ramlee. According to local residents, this house was a gift from the late Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah to his wife during their marriage. After divorcing the Sultan, the actress Norizan moved to Kuala Lumpur and never returned to this house. The house is located on Jalan Syed Abu Bakar, right next to Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Idris II, Teluk Intan.
This house was also a filming location for the drama 'Anjang Aki'. 'Anjang Aki' was a very popular drama back in the day, starring Baharuddin Hj. Omar, Ismail Hutson, and Dian P. Ramlee around the 1980s. That is a brief history of Norizan's house as known through the oral traditions of local residents. The house is currently for sale (as of December 5, 2018), and it is hoped that the new owner will appreciate the history associated with it.
As additional information, the late Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah was the grandfather of Sultan Nazrin Shah (the 35th Sultan of Perak) and the father of the late Sultan Azlan Shah (the 34th Sultan of Perak).
Noorizan Mohd Noor and P. Ramlee were married on February 6, 1955. Noorizan hoped for more from their marriage, but P. Ramlee focused more on his artistic career, which led to their marriage ending on October 16, 1961.
The marriage of P. Ramlee and Norizan began to falter while P. Ramlee was producing the film 'Ibu Mertua Ku'. Their relationship was like waves in a storm; peaceful one moment and filled with arguments the next. It was in this atmosphere that P. Ramlee composed three songs titled 'Jeritan Bathinku', 'Jangan Tinggal Daku', and 'Di Manakan Ku Cari Ganti'.
While composing his songs, P. Ramlee told Noorizan, "If I am no longer here, these songs will be your replacement and a memory in your life!" Even after they separated, P. Ramlee and Noorizan maintained a good relationship, with mutual respect for one another.
You may already know that Noorizan acted in the film 'Laksamana Do Re Mi' in 1973. Twelve years after their divorce, Noorizan was offered the role of the Queen of Pasir Berdengung by P. Ramlee.
Noorizan Mohd Noor passed away in Kuala Lumpur on May 15, 1992, at the age of 65.
