Perak Records Highest Number of Domestic Tourists in Malaysia in 2024

Perak emerged as the most visited state by domestic tourists last year, recording 10.2 million visits, surpassing other states in Malaysia.

State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee Chairman, Loh Sze Yee, said the statistics were based on the 2024 Domestic Tourism Survey report published by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) on June 19.

According to him, Perak recorded a significant increase in tourist arrivals of 36.1 percent compared to 7.5 million in 2023.

"Perak recorded the highest number of domestic tourists throughout last year, with 10.2 million people, followed by Selangor and Pahang, which recorded 9.6 million and 9.5 million respectively," he explained in a statement.

Loh also expressed his appreciation and congratulations to all parties involved in advancing the state's tourism industry.

"I congratulate all industry players including the government, local authorities (PBT), district and land offices (PDT), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and especially the traders and ordinary citizens who have worked hard to make Perak a premier tourism destination," he said.

Among the five main destinations that attracted tourists were Teluk Batik, Lumut Waterfront, Ipoh Night Market, Gunung Lang Recreational Park, and Pulau Pangkor. Meanwhile, the five most visited districts were Kinta, Larut and Matang, Manjung, Kuala Kangsar, and Batang Padang.

Loh emphasized that this success was also contributed to by the effectiveness of the Visit Perak Year 2024 campaign, as well as close cooperation between local authorities (PBT), district and land offices (PDT), the state government, and the federal government.

With this achievement, Perak continues to strengthen its position as one of the top tourism destinations in Malaysia.
