Lumut Waterfront Comes Alive with the 2025 Perak MADANI Rakyat Program

Usually quiet, the Lumut Waterfront suddenly bustled with thousands of visitors over the three-day Perak MADANI Rakyat (PMR) 2025 program, which began last Friday.

For trader Mohd Faizal Che Tan, 50, the program, which ended today, provided a fresh boost to local tourism, drawing more people to the coastal town famous for its 'blue-eyed anchovies'.

“This program is excellent because it helps revitalize tourism here. Lumut is indeed famous for its blue-eyed anchovies, so programs like this really help attract more people.

“I hope that after this, more local and foreign tourists will continue to visit Lumut and bring back this kind of excitement,” he said when met here today.

Afif Isyraf Izuwan Shah, 20, who works at a nearby seafood stall, said many PMR Perak 2025 visitors stopped by to buy anchovies, salted fish, and other seafood products.

“Alhamdulillah, since this program started, my customers have increased, including those from out of town. Many of them are staff from ministries and government agencies, and that has really helped boost sales.

“This program also indirectly provides a platform for traders like us to promote local products such as fish crackers, fish satay, and anchovy sambal,” he said.

Held at the Lumut Waterfront, the Perak PMR 2025 brought together over 200 services from various ministries and government agencies, successfully attracting more than 200,000 visitors to 36 booths over the three days.

Perak is the second location to host this large-scale PMR initiative, a result of a strategic collaboration between the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department as the main secretariat and the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) as the lead ministry.

This program not only serves as a venue for sharing government services but also acts as a driver for the local economy, further strengthening Lumut's identity as a unique tourist destination.
