Issue of Wheat Flour Containing Bleaching Agents Resurfaces in Early 2017
Recently, there was a stir regarding the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) collecting samples of wheat flour alleged by the Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) to contain bleaching agents that could affect health. The Ministry of Health (KKM) will collect the samples of the flour for laboratory analysis as soon as possible.
Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam emphasized that if the flour is found to contain bleaching agents exceeding the quantity permitted by the Food Safety and Quality Division of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM), they will recall the product without hesitation. It is a legal offense to use unauthorized chemicals to alter the color during flour processing. If caught and proven to have violated this law, legal action will be taken against the organizations and individuals involved, including product recalls and immediate cessation of operations.
Such matters are indirectly a recurring issue that has never been fully resolved. Various cases and complaints regarding this flour have been splashed across newspaper headlines for a long time. For certain irresponsible parties who prioritize self-interest and excessive profit, they find it easy to take shortcuts, and perhaps they have their own specific agendas.
Will issues like this ever be resolved? This concerns a food source, and everyone uses wheat flour. The public hopes that the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) can resolve this issue immediately and effectively.
