Government Initiates Cloud Seeding in Northern Perak Following Critical Water Levels at Bukit Merah Dam

Cloud seeding operations will be carried out in the northern part of the state to stimulate rainfall following a critical drop in water levels at the Bukit Merah Dam.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, said that such measures have been implemented before, but long-term solutions require major water transfer projects.

"We have done this (cloud seeding) before, but we know that water reservoir issues are very important. That is why we are working on a multi-billion ringgit water transfer project to overcome water problems in the Kerian Valley and southern Seberang Prai," he explained in a press conference after the Declaration Ceremony for the Clearfield MR CL3 and MR CL4 Rice Varieties at the Felcra Berhad Rice Seed Center, Seberang Perak, today.

Mohamad also informed that the major raw water transfer project from Sungai Perak to the Bukit Merah Dam, which was previously announced by the Prime Minister, is now entering the implementation phase in collaboration with the National Water Services Commission (SPAN).

This step is expected to address the water supply crisis more sustainably to meet the needs of residents and the agricultural sector in the affected areas.
