Three Belgian Investment Companies to Visit LuMIC This June
Three investment companies from Belgium are scheduled to visit the Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC) this June, following the Perak State Government's official visit to Europe last week.
Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, said the three companies involved are Belgian Scrap Terminal (BST), Soenen Group Green Vessel Recycling, and Steinberg Logistics International.
“BST has expertise in recycling waste materials, including leasing and recycling old ships.
“Meanwhile, Soenen focuses on sustainable ship disposal and recovery, while Steinberg provides integrated logistics services that support the maritime industry ecosystem,” he explained during a press conference after the State Government Customer Interaction Day Program (Series 3/2025) here today.
Saarani also informed that the French multinational company, Saint-Gobain, which operates in the Kanthan Industrial Park, Chemor, is also interested in expanding its investments.
According to him, the company plans to invest an additional RM200 million, and the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP) has proposed that its operations be relocated to the Silver Valley Technology Park (SVTP).
“Saint-Gobain has already conducted an assessment visit to SVTP to survey the suitability of the location for their new investment,” he said.
Stray Animals Issue a Safety Threat
In other developments, Saarani highlighted public complaints regarding livestock such as cows and buffaloes roaming on roads, which endanger road users. He urged farmers to use the provided grazing areas to avoid unwanted incidents.
“The presence of roaming animals not only disrupts agricultural activities but also endangers road users.
“These animals often enter fenced farm areas and have become a source of recurring complaints from local residents,” he said.
He added that livestock such as cows and buffaloes, which are usually kept by small-scale farmers without proper enclosed areas, often roam on roads and agricultural land, making this issue increasingly serious.
With the arrival of foreign investors and steps to resolve local issues, the Perak State Government continues to strive to improve economic development while safeguarding the welfare of the people.
