The Tiara of Raja Perempuan Muzwin, the 33rd Queen of Perak
The late Raja Perempuan Muzwin was the consort of the 33rd Sultan of Perak, the late Sultan Idris Shah. She was born on March 1, 1929, in Batu Gajah and was a member of the Perak royal family; her father was YAM Raja Dato Seri Ariff Shah Ibni Almarhum Raja Harun Al Rashid and her mother was YABhg Che Puan Azizah Abdullah.
Her Highness Raja Perempuan Muzwin received her early education at the Methodist English School in Ipoh from 1936 to 1941. Uniquely, she was very fluent in both Cantonese and Hokkien. Returning to the story we wish to share today, it concerns the tiara of the Raja Perempuan of Perak, Raja Perempuan Muzwin. If you observe closely today, the tiaras worn by each Queen of Perak are different and each has its own unique story. For our loyal readers at orangperak.com, the Tiara of Raja Perempuan Muzwin was worn exclusively by her, as it is believed to have been crafted during the reign of the late Sultan Idris Shah, the 33rd Sultan of Perak.
Looking at the collection of photographs available on the internet, there are two types of tiaras—and perhaps more—that were worn by Raja Perempuan Muzwin. One of them, which features the design of the Perak state emblem, was worn during her youth, while another tiara had a different design.
The design of the tiara belonging to the former Raja Perempuan of Perak is said to bear a resemblance to the Perak State Coat of Arms. There is not much information available regarding the exact date this tiara was made, while the other one is believed to have been crafted around the 1970s in London.
Today, one of those tiaras, known as the Tiara of Raja Perempuan Muzwin, has been passed down to her daughter, who is now Her Majesty the Permaisuri of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah. This tiara has also become one of the official tiaras of Her Majesty the Permaisuri of Johor.
For your information, the late Raja Perempuan Muzwin was the mother of Raja Zarith Sofiah, who is the current Permaisuri of Johor, and the late Raja Perempuan Muzwin was also the grandmother of the Crown Prince of Johor.
Indeed, all that lives must eventually pass away. On October 6, 2011, she passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) and was laid to rest at the Bukit Chandan Royal Mausoleum after the Asar prayers, attended by the Malay Rulers, royal family members, and the public.
