The Story of the Slim Village Mukim Penghulu Captured by Communists
The Malayan Communist Party (MCP) was an organization founded in Malaya in 1930. This organization was originally established to oppose British colonial rule, which was governing Malaya at the time, and aimed to establish a Communist Republic of Malaya.
During the Japanese occupation, the MCP formed the Malayan People's Anti-Japanese Army (MPAJA) to fight them. Around the 1950s, the Penghulu of Mukim Slim Village in Perak, named Penghulu Abdul Rahman Satri, was captured by communist forces. According to the story told by the victim's wife, Som Binti Ibrahim, to her family, the Penghulu was captured by communists inside the Slim Village Mosque immediately after performing Friday prayers during the month of Ramadan. At that time, Muslims were also busy making preparations for the upcoming Hari Raya, which was just one week away.
The Penghulu of Mukim Slim Village, who was captured at the Slim Village Mosque, was then forcibly taken to his own home by the communists. The communists then proceeded to ransack his house and took whatever they wanted. The victim's wife, who was at home, was shocked and pleaded for her husband not to be harmed, immediately asking to be taken along with her beloved husband.
Perhaps annoyed by the victim's wife's persistence, the leader of the communist group that captured Penghulu Abdul Rahman Satri said to her, "We have some business with the Tok Penghulu. In two or three days, we will send him home." The statement given by the communist leader somewhat eased the wife's anxiety, but her worries did not subside as she thought about her husband's fate, knowing that communists could not be trusted. After the distressing incident at the Penghulu's house, the captured Penghulu Abdul Rahman Satri was taken into the Ulu Slim forest. Since that day, Penghulu Abdul Rahman Satri has remained missing without a trace to this day. His wife, who was steadfast and devoted to her husband, waited patiently for years. Her wait never ended, hoping for the return of her husband who was last seen being taken away by the communists. The Penghulu's wife waited for his return until the end of her life in the mid-1990s. It is believed that the Penghulu was tried in the forest according to communist law and was sentenced to death for allegedly being a major threat to the communists due to his role as a Penghulu for the British. To this day, the location of his remains and grave remains unknown.
