The Story Behind the Raja Ahmad Memorial Stone at Sungai Terus

Raja Ahmad held the title of Raja Kecil Tengah for the state of Perak and was the second son of the late Sultan Abdul Malik Mansur Shah (the 19th Sultan of Perak). Raja Ahmad was also the younger brother of the late Sultan Abdullah Mu’adzam Shah (the 20th Sultan of Perak).

This royal prince, who once held the title of Raja Kecil Tengah for Perak, was married to Che Puan Busu (Che Long), the daughter of Daeng Masiah, a Bugis princess. From this marriage, Raja Ahmad was blessed with two sons; his eldest was the late Sultan Ja’afar Safiuddin Mu’adzam Shah (the 23rd Sultan of Perak), while the other was named Raja Alang Iskandar (Raja Bendahara Alang Iskandar Marhum Teja). According to the lineage of the Sultans of Perak, it is the descendants of Raja Ahmad, the Raja Kecil Tengah of Perak, who have become the Sultans of Perak and led the state since the reign of the late Sultan Idris I in 1887 until today.

Raja Ahmad did not have the chance to be installed as the Sultan of Perak because he passed away before his elder brother. Raja Ahmad only held the titles of Raja Kecil Tengah, Raja Di-Hilir, and Raja Muda.

The story goes that Raja Ahmad passed away after falling into the mouth of the Terus river while traveling by boat; his body was lost and never recovered. To commemorate his passing, a memorial stone was erected in the area of the Terus river mouth.

It is believed that Raja Ahmad was also the guardian of the state's spiritual realm at Beting Beras Basah, located at the mouth of the Perak River. As we are all aware, Beting Beras Basah is a mandatory location that must be visited by every royal prince who is installed as the Sultan of Perak.
