Temasya Budaya@Negeri Perak Has Potential to Become a Global Tourism Attraction

Temasya Budaya@Negeri Perak has the potential to be elevated as an international-standard tourism product, thereby attracting more foreign tourists to the state.

Director General of the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN), Mohd. Amran Mohd. Haris, emphasized that efforts to promote this festival require close cooperation between tourism agencies at both the federal and state levels.

“This strategic cooperation will allow this cultural festival to be made a key element in cultural tourism,” he said when met by Mingguan Malaysia at the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) Stadium grounds yesterday.

According to him, more aggressive promotion, publicity, and marketing must be carried out by all parties, including tourism agencies, so that programs like this are not only visited by local tourists but are also capable of attracting international tourists.

Cultural Preservation for the Younger Generation

Mohd. Amran also emphasized that involvement in such programs can ensure that customs and traditions that are increasingly being forgotten continue to be preserved and inherited by future generations.

“There are old customs and traditions that have been updated to be more attractive, thereby encouraging the younger generation to participate in defending them,” he said.

He gave the example of the berendoi custom (celebrating a baby's birth), which is almost extinct but is still maintained by several village-level organizations.

“Previously, the berendoi custom only involved marhaban and selawat, but I was quite surprised when it was also enlivened with the beating of the Perak rebana. Such innovations make this tradition more interesting and relevant,” he explained.

A Fusion of Multi-Ethnic Arts

The festival also features artistic elements such as Perak rebana, dabus dance, and handicraft arts as main attractions. In addition, visitors have the opportunity to witness demonstrations of traditional games as well as the arts of the Indian, Chinese, and Orang Asli communities, which reflect the richness of cultural diversity in Perak.

“This is not just a cultural event, but also a platform to promote unity through art and tradition,” added Mohd. Amran.

With its inherent potential, Temasya Budaya@Negeri Perak is hoped to become a must-visit destination for global tourists, while driving the state's tourism industry to a higher level.
