Sultan Nazrin Shah Inaugurates New JPN Larut, Matang and Selama Building

The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, graciously officiated the new National Registration Department (JPN) building for the Larut, Matang and Selama district here today, completing a transformation toward more efficient registration services for local residents. His Royal Highness was accompanied by the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, and the Raja Di Hilir of Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah.

The royal couple was welcomed by the Menteri Besar of Perak, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and his wife, Datin Seri Aezer Zubir, as well as the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah and his wife, Datin Seri Hamisah Hussin. Sultan Nazrin then performed the opening ceremony by cutting a symbolic ribbon and signing a commemorative plaque, followed by a special montage presentation showcasing the history and development of JPN.

After the ceremony, His Royal Highness visited an exhibition on JPN's development, attended a luncheon, and toured the new building's facilities before departing.

Consolidation of Two Offices in a Strategic Location

According to Shamsul Anuar, the RM10.5 million building project is a merger of two existing branches – the JPN Taiping office, which had operated at Wisma Persekutuan since 1986, and the JPN Kamunting branch, which had been operating since 2004. A rationalization process was carried out before both offices were consolidated at the new 40,468-square-meter site under the Fourth Rolling Plan of the 11th Malaysia Plan.

This new location was chosen for its strategic position near the North-South Expressway and the West Coast Expressway (WCE), providing easier access for residents. Statistics show that applications in this district increased by 40 percent in 2024, reaching 69,740 compared to 41,804 the previous year, proving the need for better facilities to accommodate the growing demand.

Modern Facilities for Public Comfort

The building, which began construction on September 2, 2021, and was fully completed on April 22, 2024, began operations on June 4, 2024, following the handover ceremony from the Public Works Department (JKR) Perak to JPN on May 21 last year.

Among the facilities provided are 93 car parking lots, 25 motorcycle parking lots, OKU-friendly restrooms, a surau, a waiting area with 132 seats, and a special room for marriage registration ceremonies. With the opening of this office, it is hoped that JPN services can be carried out more effectively, comfortably, and efficiently for the well-being of the people.
