Sultan Nazrin Receives RM3.25 Million in Business Zakat at Istana Iskandariah

KUALA KANGSAR – Istana Iskandariah witnessed another historic moment as the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, graciously accepted business zakat payments totaling RM3,250,676 from four corporate companies and an individual. The zakat presentation ceremony was held for the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) as a symbol of devotion and social responsibility in fulfilling religious obligations.

According to MAIPk Chief Executive Officer, Syamsul Hazeman Md. Salleh, the zakat presentation began with Boustead Plantations Berhad, represented by its Chief Financial Officer, Nina Wirasatria Md. Husni, with a zakat amount of RM250,676. "This is part of the company's commitment to contribute to the development of the ummah and assist those in need," explained Syamsul Hazeman.

Next, Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, through his representative Syed Amir Nidzamuddin Syed Abu Hussin, presented an individual income zakat totaling RM2,400,000. This significant amount reflects the high level of awareness among successful individuals in fulfilling their religious duties.

Also contributing was Empayar Indera Sdn. Bhd., represented by its General Manager, Datuk Hasrin Abdul Rahman, with a business zakat of RM200,000. The company, which is involved in various business sectors, demonstrated a strong commitment to fulfilling their corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The Railway Assets Corporation (PAK) also participated in this charitable act. Represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Azhar Ahmad, PAK presented a business zakat totaling RM200,000. This contribution not only helps the asnaf (zakat recipients) but also strengthens the relationship between the corporate sector and the community.

The final zakat presentation was made by Public Islamic Bank Berhad, represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Syamsul Azuan Ahmad Fauzi, with an amount of RM200,000. As an Islamic financial institution, this contribution underscores the bank's vital role in supporting the economic and social development of Muslims.

The zakat presentation ceremony was followed by an iftar event with the media, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the corporate sector, private entities, government-linked companies (GLCs), and youth. This event not only strengthened ties but also served as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of zakat in helping those in need.

Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam that has a significant impact on reducing economic and social gaps. Through these zakat contributions, MAIPk can empower welfare, education, and community development programs, particularly in the state of Perak.

With the contributions received, it is hoped that more programs can be implemented to assist the asnaf, including the poor, orphans, and those requiring assistance. This is in line with Sultan Nazrin's vision to develop Perak into a prosperous and thriving state.
