His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, along with Her Royal Highness Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim (Chancellor of UPSI), graced the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh with their presence to visit the victims' families and receive a detailed briefing regarding the road tragedy at KM53, Jalan Timur Barat Jeli-Gerik. The accident, which occurred early Monday morning, June 9, 2025, claimed 15 lives and left 24 students injured, with 22 treated as outpatients at Gerik Hospital, while two others received treatment at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

During the solemn visit, Their Royal Highnesses expressed their profound sorrow over the heartbreaking incident that tragically claimed so many lives. His Majesty emphasized that while life and death are determined by the Divine, humans are commanded to strive to the best of their ability to avoid catastrophes through proactive measures.

“Allah subhanahu wataala calls upon His servants to always strive to prevent danger and disaster,” His Majesty stated, emphasizing that this latest incident must serve as a lesson for all parties. “We must re-evaluate existing weaknesses, especially in terms of road traffic law enforcement, so that such tragic incidents do not recur,” His Majesty asserted, referring to the recent increase in fatal accident cases.

His Majesty also conveyed his condolences to the parents and families of the victims who lost their loved ones at such a young age. “We share the grief over the heavy trial befalling the victims' families. May they be granted the fortitude and strength to face this ordeal with full acceptance,” His Majesty said.

At the end of the visit, His Majesty prayed that the souls of the victims be blessed and placed among the righteous, while hoping for a full recovery for those injured. This compassionate visit once again highlights the deep concern Sultan Nazrin and Raja Permaisuri Tuanku Zara have for the safety and welfare of the people.

Call for Change
This tragedy is hoped to be a catalyst for the transformation of the national transportation system, with an emphasis on legal compliance, awareness of prudent driving, and safer road infrastructure. Authorities are urged to take immediate action to prevent the recurrence of such sad incidents in the future.
