Some Guided Friends to Recite the Shahada Even Knowing They Had Passed Away, Says Witness to UPSI Student Accident
A chaotic and sorrowful scene enveloped the site of a fatal accident on the Gerik-Jeli Highway near Tasik Banding, Perak, early this morning. 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students were killed, while seven others were seriously injured after the bus they were traveling in overturned while on their way back to campus.
Razali, 45, a resident of Jeli who arrived at the scene, shared the heartbreaking moments he witnessed. According to him, he rushed to the location after hearing news of the accident, initially thinking the incident had occurred in Kelantan.
“I arrived around 1:50 AM. The fire department and ambulances were already there, but the sight before my eyes was truly heartbreaking,” he said with a choked voice.
“Some were still trapped in the wreckage, others were crying and screaming for help due to their pain. Most movingly, several students did not give up on guiding their friends to recite the two kalimah syahadah, even though they realized their friends had already passed away,” added Razali.
The victims who perished were laid out respectfully, while medical teams worked to provide emergency treatment to the injured. In the tense situation, firefighters had to cut through the bus body to extract victims who were still trapped.
“I also helped as much as I could before returning to Jeli at about 3 AM,” said Razali.
This tragic incident occurred at approximately 1 AM, while the bus carrying the UPSI students was on its way back to the university. As of now, the cause of the accident is still under investigation by the authorities.
This tragedy has not only left deep sorrow for the victims' families but has also shocked the community, especially the UPSI community who lost their students in such a painful manner.
