Pondok Schools Remain Relevant, Can Be Integrated with New Education System – Perak Mufti

Pondok schools are not outdated and still possess unique strengths that are difficult to replace with modern educational methods, says Perak Mufti, Dato Seri Wan Zahidi Wan Teh.

Instead, according to him, the traditional system can be combined with new approaches to meet current needs without compromising its core values.

“Some people think that the pondok system is outdated. Actually, it is not; every system has its own unique strengths that cannot be replaced by other systems, even if they are new,” he emphasized.

He said this while officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Akademi Pengajian Pondok Umumi, Tahfiz Al-Quran, and Balai Islam Al Khairiyyah Al Hashimiyyah here today.

Wan Zahidi emphasized that pondok schools have made significant contributions to this region, including Malaysia, in the dissemination of knowledge in the past.

“We need knowledge. Knowledge can be likened to air and water for humans to continue living,” he said.

He added that the pondok system also opens opportunities for anyone to delve into knowledge that might not have been accessible to them before.

With the combination of traditional and modern approaches, it is hoped that pondok schools will continue to play an important role in producing a knowledgeable and competitive generation.
