Perak Targets Over 35 Gold Medals at SUKMA Selangor 2025
The Perak contingent aims to surpass the 35 gold medals achieved at SUKMA Sarawak 2024 by preparing their best team for SUKMA Selangor, which will take place in August next year.
Perak State Sports Council (MSN) Director, Mazlan Mohamad, said the athlete selection process is actively underway, and the final list of state representatives is expected to be completed by the end of this year at the latest.
Athlete Selection Proceeding Smoothly
“The selection session is ongoing, particularly for combat sports such as judo and wushu. The selection also involves other sports that will be participated in at SUKMA Selangor later,” he said.
He added that, for now, only a longlist of athletes has been prepared, and they still need to compete to secure a spot on the state team.
“So far, we only have a longlist of athletes, and they still have the opportunity to compete against each other to earn a place in the team and subsequently represent the Perak SUKMA contingent,” explained Mazlan when met at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Level XCRIIM Cup Football Championship at Padang Taman Dr Seenivasagam, yesterday.
Best Record in 15 Years
At SUKMA Sarawak 2024, Perak finished in seventh place with a collection of 35 gold, 38 silver, and 57 bronze medals. That achievement was the state contingent's best record in 15 years, especially for games held outside of Perak.
'Belang Tarung Tiga Warna' Program to Continue
Mazlan also informed that MSN Perak will continue the implementation of the Program Belang Tarung Tiga Warna – Extended Versions 2.0 2025, which focuses on 28 main sports in SUKMA Selangor.
The RM500,000 program will emphasize athlete development in sports such as football, futsal, aquatics, archery, shooting, athletics, and rugby.
PAFA to Utilize SUKMA Players for A1 Semi-Pro League
Mazlan also supports the move by the Perak Football Association (PAFA) to optimize SUKMA players to strengthen the team in the A1 Semi-Pro League.
“Participation in competitive matches like the A1 League, which also includes experienced players, including former Super League players, is believed to be able to help Perak SUKMA players improve their performance,” he said.
He emphasized that PAFA's strategy provides a significant advantage in preparing a more competitive SUKMA team.
Previously, PAFA President, Datuk Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin, announced that the Perak team would be composed of a majority of SUKMA players as well as several experienced senior players from the Super League to face the A1 Semi-Pro League.
With careful preparation and solid support, Perak aims to achieve even greater success at SUKMA Selangor 2025.
