Perak School Wins Grand Prize at Arts Festival in Barcelona

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Muhibbah, or SMK Muhibbah, is a national secondary school that has been a landmark for Kampong Baru Simpang Jalong, Sungai Siput (U) since it opened on January 2, 2001.

Since the 2016 school session, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Muhibbah has welcomed its first batch of Form 1 students for the Sekolah Seni Malaysia Perak (SSeMPk), with 51 students participating in classes across 4 arts disciplines.

The classes in these 4 arts disciplines include Music, Visual Arts, Dance, and Theater. Furthermore, it was previously expected that by 2020, SMK Muhibbah would officially transition into the Sekolah Seni Malaysia Perak (SSeMPk) for the Northern Zone.

For our loyal readers of orangperak.com, Sekolah Seni Malaysia Perak (SSeMP) won the grand prize at the International Arts Festival in Barcelona, Spain, on November 1, 2017. What makes us proud is that this is the first victory for a Malaysian arts school at an international event.

With a performance of Mek Mulung and the Jikey dance, supported by Malay rhythms from traditional Malaysian instruments, Sekolah Seni Malaysia Perak (SSeMP) received the highest honor in the competition, which emphasized authentic genres.

The performance was delivered by five students from Sekolah Seni Malaysia Perak (SSeMP). Interestingly, they are only 14 years old and competed against 26 teams from various countries. Their spirit in championing, preserving, and elevating our culture on the world stage deserves praise.
