Perak Museum is the Oldest Museum in Peninsular Malaysia
The British began taking steps to construct the Perak Museum building in 1883.
Starting from that year, the Perak museum building began construction and was completed in 1886. It was put into use immediately after its completion. Once completed, it became a fact that the Perak Museum building is the oldest museum in Peninsular Malaysia.
Expansion works on the building were actively carried out at that time until 1903, when it was fully completed. Leonard Wray Junior, who was a flower garden entrepreneur in Larut at the time, was instructed by Sir Hugh Low, the British Resident, to collect materials including historical artifacts and other related items to be housed in the museum.
Leonard Wray Junior was also appointed as the first manager of the Perak Museum once it began operations. At that time, the Perak Museum was under the administration of the Federated Malay States Government.
