Perak Menteri Besar Moved to Tears While Visiting Families of UPSI Students Killed in Accident
Perak Menteri Besar, Dato' Seri Saarani Mohamad, was overcome with emotion and shed tears while visiting the families of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students at the Forensic Department of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun here today.
Saarani, who spoke to the media at the hospital grounds, expressed his deep sorrow for the families of the students involved in the accident on the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding, Gerik, earlier this morning.
He also took the time to speak with and check on the well-being of several family members present for the identification of the remains.
“For the victims still in the hospital, whether in critical condition or otherwise, we pray for their recovery so they can continue their studies at UPSI,” he said.
He also acknowledged the pain of the families who lost their loved ones.
“To the families, I am certain this tragic event has left a deep impact. UPSI has provided counseling services. We hope they can accept this reality and find peace in God's will,” he added.
Saarani also announced that the state government would provide financial aid of RM1,000 to each student's family to cover expenses and accommodation during the funeral arrangements.
“The state government is ready to assist with all needs. I have also requested the Ipoh City Council (MBI) to provide tents for shelter, as well as packed meals for the families and forensic staff,” he explained.
He also informed that UPSI would provide hearses once the post-mortem process is completed.
“Thank you to the State Police Chief who will manage traffic arrangements to ensure the remains are safely transported home for burial in their respective hometowns,” he added.
The accident this morning claimed the lives of several UPSI students, while others remain in critical condition. Rescue operations and investigations are still being conducted by the authorities.
