Perak KPDN Seizes 219 LPG Cylinders in Ops Gasak 2025: Firm Action Against Controlled Goods Misappropriation
The Perak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) continues to strengthen enforcement against the misappropriation of controlled goods by seizing 219 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders in three separate raids in Teluk Intan, Ipoh, and Taiping on May 7, 2025. This action was taken through the implementation of Ops Gasak, a special operation aimed at curbing the increasingly rampant misappropriation and abuse of controlled goods.
What is Ops Gasak?
Ops Gasak is an integrated initiative by KPDN conducted nationwide to detect, investigate, and take firm action against misappropriation of controlled goods, including LPG, subsidized cooking oil, and diesel. This operation involves collaboration between various enforcement agencies, including the police and local authorities, to ensure that supplies of controlled goods reach eligible consumers and are not misused for personal gain.
Raid and Seizure Details
Perak KPDN Director, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, stated that the first raid was conducted at a poultry farm in Teluk Intan found to be storing LPG cylinders without a valid permit. The gas was used for heating in farming operations, but the farm manager—a 66-year-old local man—failed to produce any license or authorization letter to store controlled goods.
The second and third raids were carried out at a business premise in Ipoh and a residential house in Taiping. In both cases, LPG cylinders were also stored without authorization, with two lorries used for transporting the gas. The individuals responsible at both locations—aged 48 and 62 respectively—have been detained for further investigation.
Total Amount and Value of Seizures
In all three Ops Gasak 2025 raids in Perak, KPDN has:
- Seized 219 LPG cylinders of various capacities (10kg, 12kg, 14kg)
- Seized 2 lorries
- Estimated the total value of seizures at RM46,995.30
All cases are being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974. If convicted, individuals can be fined up to RM1 million or face three years in prison, while companies can be fined up to RM2 million.
