Perak Government Considers Legal Action Against Spreaders of False Information Regarding Stray Dog Issue

The Perak government is reviewing legal action against any parties suspected of spreading misinformation regarding the stray dog issue. This step follows public reaction to the enforcement actions taken by local authorities (PBT) in addressing the problem of stray animals.

This issue arose after two videos went viral on Facebook showing dozens of stray dogs in cages on a Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI) truck. The videos sparked various reactions, including allegations that the dogs were buried alive. However, MBI denied these claims and asserted that all animals involved had undergone a humane euthanasia process.

Perak Pawsitive Program Implemented, Yet Constraints Remain

State Executive Councillor, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, stated that the state government has implemented the Perak Pawsitive program to address the issue of stray animals.

“More than 300 dogs and 250 cats have been neutered since this program began last year. However, we still face constraints such as pound capacity and low owner awareness,” she explained.

740 Stray Dog Complaints Received, Including Fatal Bite Cases

According to MBI Enforcement Director, Ahmad Zaiyadi Sudin, 740 complaints regarding stray dogs and 201 complaints regarding pet dogs have been recorded as of July 20.

“These complaints include bite cases that resulted in death. Captured dogs will be kept at the pound for three days before being allowed to be claimed by the public,” he said.

The state government continues to strive to increase public awareness and strengthen enforcement to address the issue of stray animals more effectively.
