Istana Singgah, A Wooden Palace Over 100 Years Old in Pengkalan Hulu

23 Mar 2019 · 2 min read · 299 ·By Freddie Aziz Jasbindar

Istana Singgah is a palace belonging to the descendants of Raja Reman, built from wood over 100 years ago. This palace was once used as a stopover for the descendants of Raja Reman when visiting their territories in the north.

Surprisingly, the palace, which is over 100 years old, remains sturdy to this day. Currently, several families reside within Istana Singgah. A great-grandchild of Raja Reman from the lineage of Tuan Lebeh Tuan Jagong, named Tengku Razman Tuan Syed Ngalam Alwi, now inhabits the palace along with other family members.

On July 16, 1909, the handover of the Reman District to the state of Perak took place in Kroh (now known as Pengkalan Hulu) as a result of intervention by the Siamese and British governments. If not for this, Hulu Perak might still have its own king and be under the rule of the Reman kingdom today.
