Ipoh Road Users Urge Parents to Monitor Children Cycling on Roads

26 Nov 2017 · 2 min read · 213 ·By Freddie Aziz Jasbindar

Have you forgotten the incident where a car plowed into a group of children cycling in Johor on February 18, 2017? If you have forgotten, we would like to remind you that eight teenagers cycling at 3 a.m. in Johor Bahru died when a vehicle struck them from behind.

"It is very dangerous; if an accident occurs, there will surely be fatalities, especially involving children. They are only around 7 to 8 years old," lamented a road user around Ipoh city to orangperak.com, who is deeply concerned about the safety of young children cycling on main roads.

Their concern should be taken into account by all parents to be more mindful of their children's routes and how they cycle. According to the complainant, they observed children cycling on the main road enjoying the downhill speed on Jalan Raja Musa Aziz, near Garden D.R. Seenivasagam and the St. John Ambulance Hall.

Vehicles passing through the Jalan Raja Musa Aziz area often speed at approximately 80 kilometers per hour after descending the hill towards the roundabout, which is only about 400 meters away. Can you imagine what would happen if children were involved in an accident and struck by vehicles in that busy area? Therefore, it is highly appropriate for all parties and relevant agencies, especially parents, to supervise their children so that tragic incidents do not occur, not only on Jalan Raja Musa Aziz but on all roads throughout the state.

All road users, whether driving light or heavy vehicles or riding motorcycles, are also urged not to speed in areas with a high potential for accidents. Obey traffic laws, drive prudently, and always be cautious on the road. Please share this notice and reminder from an orangperak.com reader with everyone. Be mindful before bad things happen to our families or others. Hopefully, parents will be more attentive and the community can work together to prevent such unfortunate events.
