On February 17, 2003, another chapter in Malaysia's educational history was written with the official opening of Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Gopeng (SBPI Gopeng). Located on Jalan Kota Bharu, Gopeng, Perak, this school was built on lot 137664, Mukim Teja, covering an area of 27 acres.

Its construction began on November 13, 2000, and cost RM30.4 million. SBPI Gopeng is not just an ordinary school; it is one of 14 National Religious Secondary Schools (SMKA) upgraded to an Integrated Fully Residential School (SBPI).

More interestingly, SBPI Gopeng is the first integrated fully residential school opened in the state of Perak, marking the beginning of a new era in the state's education system.

Background of the Establishment of SBPI Gopeng

SBPI Gopeng is part of the Malaysian Ministry of Education's initiative to empower the national education system by combining academic and religious elements into a balanced curriculum.

The idea for establishing this integrated school was first introduced in 2002, with the aim of producing students who are not only excellent in academics but also possess a strong religious foundation. SBPI Gopeng is one of the first eight integrated schools opened in Malaysia, and it became a model for similar schools built thereafter.

Inauguration

The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, graciously officiated the Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi (SBPI) Gopeng, which was upgraded from a National Religious Secondary School (SMKA), on June 27, 2024.

His Royal Highness's arrival at the inauguration ceremony was accompanied by the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim. Also present were the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa; the Raja Puan Besar of Perak, Raja Nazhatul Shima Sultan Idris Shah; and the Raja Di Hilir of Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah.
