Durian Sold by Weight, A First in Kampung Gajah History

16 Nov 2017 · 1 min read · 12 ·By Freddie Aziz Jasbindar
Many have long craved authentic Perak village durians, and now, many orchard owners are selling them by weight instead of by the heap or by the piece, unlike before. This is the first time this has happened in the history of village durians in Kampung Gajah.

The durian season has returned to the Perak Tengah area after a long hiatus of several years since the major floods that struck in 2014. Unpredictable weather may have also played a role in why durians did not thrive over the last 3 years, but 2017 is clearly different from before!

Many buyers and durian enthusiasts have criticized this method of selling village durians because the price, ranging from RM7 to RM14 per kilogram, is considered quite expensive. This is because the quality of the durian flesh is unpredictable, and one cannot know if it is good or not.

Many buyers and die-hard fans of the 'King of Fruits' suggest eating directly at the stall when buying by weight, as we might be able to exchange the fruit if the flesh is not good. Otherwise, you just have to accept it when you bring it home.

Orchard owners should also be given the space to enjoy the fruits of their labor after their trees have been 'dormant' for so long. However, many fans hope that the prices will not be too high and could perhaps be reduced slightly, as many who crave them cannot afford to buy them.
