Cross Street Bazaar Becomes a Weekend Hotspot for Taiping Residents

Taiping residents never miss the chance to relax at the Cross Street Bazaar and Dataran Warisan on weekends. Not only for locals, the Cross Street Bazaar also attracts tourists to stop by and enjoy the nightlife in Taiping, the Heritage City.

Taiping residents never miss the chance to relax at the Cross Street Bazaar and Dataran Warisan on weekends. Not only for locals, the Cross Street Bazaar also attracts tourists to stop by and enjoy the nightlife in Taiping, the Heritage City.

The Cross Street Bazaar is located on Jalan Alang Ahmad, opposite the Taiping Municipal Council building. This bazaar has been operating since November 2014. Jalan Alang Ahmad is closed specifically to make way for the Cross Street Bazaar, which operates every weekend from Friday to Sunday. The bazaar's operating hours are from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM.

There are many interesting stalls here, selling items such as headscarves, shirts, trousers, cosmetics, belts, pomade, and much more. Visitors can also purchase a variety of food and drinks. Among the popular menu items are rolled ice cream, inspired by Thai street food, and iced grass jelly tea.

There are also stalls selling handicrafts and souvenirs related to Taiping. Visitors can try their hand at batik canting at one of the stalls and take home their creations. Tourists from Japan have also tried their hand at canting and coloring the fabric provided during their visit.

Visitors can rent roller skates and remote-controlled cars that children can ride.

Visitors can also buy food and drinks while relaxing around Dataran Warisan. Visitors are encouraged not to leave any litter to maintain the cleanliness of the area. For your information, trash bins have been provided at the square site next to the Land and District Office.

At certain times, special exhibitions are held here. These have included modified car club exhibitions, motorcycle stunt shows, remote-controlled mini cars, ice carving by renowned sculptors, traditional cake-making demonstrations, and recently, a reading exhibition. Additionally, if you are lucky, you can listen to live music from bands and buskers. For those interested in karaoke, there is a stall that provides this activity.

Among the programs held at this bazaar was the distribution of free lemang to the public in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri for two consecutive years since 2015. Furthermore, free mandarin oranges were also given to visitors and traders during the Chinese New Year celebration. So, in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2017, everyone is invited to the Cross Street Bazaar to enliven the activities here every weekend.
