Attempted Exploitation of FRU Personnel's Next-of-Kin, Perak Police Appoint Special Counsel

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, revealed that irresponsible parties are attempting to exploit the next-of-kin of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel who perished in a tragic accident in Teluk Intan on May 13.

According to him, the police have taken proactive steps by appointing special counsel to represent all next-of-kin and personnel involved to ensure there is no misuse of the compensation and contributions received.

“We have detected attempts to ‘fish in troubled waters’ by certain parties. Although I cannot disclose specific details, this issue involves financial and legal aspects,” asserted Noor Hisam during a press conference after the Gerik District Police Chief handover ceremony today.

He advised the next-of-kin and FRU personnel not to deal with any unknown parties and to only refer to the lawyer appointed by the police.

Tragic Accident in Teluk Intan

The 8:54 AM incident saw an FRU truck collide with a lorry carrying a load of stones on Jalan Sungai Lampam–Teluk Intan. In addition to the nine deaths, five personnel were seriously injured while four others sustained minor injuries.

Counseling Services Given Priority

Noor Hisam also emphasized that the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) will continue to provide emotional support and counseling services to the victims' families and the personnel involved.

“Under JIPS, the Religious and Counseling Division (BAKA) has trained counselors who will help the next-of-kin and personnel recover emotionally. We are committed to ensuring they are not neglected,” he said.

This measure is hoped to lighten the burden on the victims' families while ensuring no party attempts to take advantage of this unfortunate tragedy.
