On March 10, 2025, corresponding to 9 Ramadan 1446 Hijrah, the state of Perak Darul Ridzuan once again recorded a glorious history with the inauguration of Masjid Tuminah Hamidi in Bagan Datuk. The inauguration ceremony was officiated by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-lah.
Also present at the ceremony were YTM Raja Kechil Sulung Perak, Raja Ahmad Nazim Shah Ibni Almarhum Raja Ashman Shah, and the Honorable Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. This mosque is not merely a place of worship, but also a symbol of heritage, architectural beauty, and a strong sense of community.
Sultan Nazrin graciously performed the ceremonial planting of a Bunga Tanjung or Mimusops elengi tree to mark the opening of the mosque, before breaking fast with approximately 2,500 guests.
Inspiration Behind the Construction
Masjid Tuminah Hamidi is the result of the vision and tireless efforts of the Honorable Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and Member of Parliament for Bagan Datuk, Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. A native of Bagan Datuk, he initiated the construction of this mosque as a tribute to his late parents, Raden Hamidi Abdul Fattah and Tuminah Abdul Jalil. The mosque is named in honor of the two individuals who contributed so much to his life.
Cost and Funding
Construction of the mosque began in 2017 and cost RM53 million. All funds were contributed by Yayasan Al Falah, a foundation renowned for its commitment to developing religious and social infrastructure. The mosque is built over the waters of the Perak River, providing a stunning and serene view for worshippers.
Capacity and Facilities
The Masjid Tuminah Hamidi complex covers a floor area of 8,570 square meters and can accommodate up to 5,000 worshippers at one time. In addition to the main prayer hall, the complex is equipped with various modern facilities, including the Tuminah Hamidi Hall measuring 40 feet by 50 feet, complete with changing rooms and an audio system. There is also a Khuttab Al-Quran for religious studies, a VVIP lounge, and a spacious parking area for the convenience of worshippers from Bagan Datuk and surrounding districts such as Hilir Perak.
Architectural Uniqueness
One of the main features of Masjid Tuminah Hamidi is its mesmerizing architectural beauty. The decorative elements and calligraphy adorning the walls and interior reflect the refinement of traditional Islamic art. Every detail is meticulously carved, blending modern and traditional elements, making this mosque not only a place of worship but also an attractive tourist destination.
Historic Events
The mosque has hosted several significant events since its opening. In 2023, for the first time, an Iftar and Tarawih prayer ceremony were held here with the presence of the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Jaafar Ibni Almarhum Raja Muda Musa. This event was repeated in 2024 with the presence of the Raja Di Hilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris Afifullah Shah. These events not only strengthen the mosque's role as a religious center but also as a community gathering place.
