5.7 Magnitude Earthquake in Medan Felt in Perak
A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck Medan, Indonesia at 8:43 PM Malaysian time today, January 16, 2017. The 5.7 tremor was quite strong, and some Perak residents began sharing their experiences of the shaking on social media via Facebook.
A witness located 35km from the earthquake's epicenter also shared their experience on the emsc-csem.org website regarding the quake. "Never felt anything like this before, I was in the car and the car started shaking like it just installed car hydraulics, I hope everyone is safe," they said on the site.
Many others also felt the tremors in Malaysia, such as in Penang, Kedah, Perlis, and other west coast areas. According to comments on emsc-csem.org, there were also witnesses from Singapore who felt the tremors.
It is hard to imagine how strong the tremors were there if even the entire west coast area felt them. Let us pray that all our fellow human beings in Medan are safe and remain strong in facing this ordeal.
