The Story of the 4th Menteri Besar of Perak Who Once Worked as a Driver

This time, orangperak.com would like to share the story of the 4th Menteri Besar of Perak, YAB Dato' Seri Ahmad bin Said. He served as the Menteri Besar of Perak from May 7, 1964, to March 18, 1970. The 4th Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato Seri Ahmad Said, was born on January 1, 1919, in Kampung Masjid, Lenggong. His mother was Khadijah binti Awang Kecil and his father was Said bin Abdullah. He received his early education at an Arabic school located in Kampung Geluk and at the Lenggong Malay School until he completed the sixth grade. You might not know that Dato Seri Ahmad Said is the grandfather of the actor Iqram Dinzly.
The grandson of the 4th Menteri Besar of Perak, Iqram Dinzly Before getting seriously involved in politics, Dato Seri Ahmad Said originally worked as a driver for the KED company from 1939 to 1941. Then, at the age of 24, Dato Seri Ahmad Said was chosen to be the Vice Chairman of the Kesatuan Melayu Muda, Lenggong branch, from 1943 to 1944. Later, he was also actively involved in the establishment of the Perak Malay Alliance (PPP) Lenggong branch and served as an Information Officer from 1945 to 1947. In 1948, he, along with Tan Sri Mohamed Ghazali bin Jawi and Dato’ Mohd Nordin bin Dahan, established the UMNO Lenggong branch.
He continued to be active in politics until he was selected as a candidate in the 1955 Malayan General Election, where he won unopposed for the Hulu Perak constituency. In the 1959 Malayan General Election, he contested again and won the Lenggong seat.
In the third general election, the 1964 Malaysian General Election, he contested to defend his Lenggong State Assembly seat and won with a majority. This victory led the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Idris Shah II, to appoint him as Menteri Besar on May 7 of the same year.
