The First Hot Air Balloon Festival in Perak
On September 19, 1783, a French scientist named Pilatre De Rozier shocked the residents of the city of Metz, France, when he introduced the world's first hot air balloon, known as the Aerostat Reveillon.
The passengers inside the hot air balloon consisted of several animals, including a sheep, a duck, and a rooster. These animals were the first passengers to float in a hot air balloon, remaining in the air for about 15 minutes before crashing to the ground.
Pilatre De Rozier
Two years later, fate was not on Pilatre De Rozier's side when his attempt to cross the English Channel failed; his hot air balloon exploded while over Wimereux, resulting in his death. Although the death of Pilatre De Rozier, the inventor of the hot air balloon, shocked many, it did not dampen the spirits of intellectuals who sought to develop safer technology to keep hot air balloons in the air for longer periods, and they eventually succeeded in creating safer versions.
Since the creation of safer versions of the hot air balloon, it has become one of the oldest flight technologies in the world for transporting humans from one location to another. For the state of Perak, this event, held in collaboration with AKA Balloon Sdn Bhd as part of the Perak Festival of Ideas (PFOI) 2017, is the first of its kind to take place in the skies of Perak.
