Taman Tasik Kamunting Selected as Host for National Landscape Day 2017
All residents of Perak are invited to Taman Tasik Kamunting, Taiping from March 31, 2017, to April 2, 2017, to celebrate the National Landscape Day 2017. Various exciting events will be prepared for all visitors.
The location of Taman Tasik Kamunting is near Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Jana, Kamunting and the Kamunting Correctional Centre (formerly known as the Taiping Protective Detention Centre and Kamunting Detention Camp). Visitors from outside Taiping are advised to use Waze or Google Maps to avoid confusing it with the Taiping Lake Gardens, which is located about 7 kilometers away in Taiping town.
This three-day celebration will be filled with various events such as exhibitions, flower arrangement competitions, busker performances, traditional sports competitions, landscape product sales, gotong-royong (community clean-up) events, mural painting competitions, landscape design clinics and competitions, and much more. The celebration aims to cultivate a spirit of love for landscapes within the community. Traditionally, National Landscape Day is celebrated on March 3rd each year. The launch ceremony for National Landscape Day 2017 will be officiated by the Honorable Tan Sri Noh bin Haji Omar, Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (KPKT). The celebration will continue over a 6-month period with various other activities such as community landscape cultivation, tree planting, 'Rakan Taman' (Friends of the Park) activities, and media promotion and publicity. Organized by KPKT in collaboration with the National Landscape Department and the Taiping Municipal Council, this year's program carries the theme "Rakan Taman Movement for Urban Residents' Wellbeing." The National Landscape Department serves as the secretariat for this event at the national level. Other agencies assisting include the Perak State Department of Culture and Arts, the Larut Matang District and Land Office, the Larut Matang District RELA Office, the Taiping District Police Headquarters, the Larut Matang District Agriculture Office, the Larut & Matang District Forestry Office, the Kamunting Fire and Rescue Station, and others.
