Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah, the 32nd Sultan of Perak
On January 4, 1963, the 32nd Sultan of Perak, the late Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah, passed away. He had ruled the state of Perak for 15 years.
Before his passing on January 4, 1963, he had been ill since October 22, 1962, while at Istana Bukit Chandan, and eventually passed away at the age of 72. The late Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah was born on January 15, 1890, in Kuala Kangsar and was one of the sons of the late Sultan Abdul Jalil (the 29th Sultan of Perak). The 32nd Sultan of Perak received his early education at the Malay School, Hogan School, and the Malay College Kuala Kangsar. He later entered government service in 1911 at the State Secretariat.
He also served in several other departments, such as the Land Office, District Office, and District Court. In 1919, the late Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah was appointed as Raja Di Hilir Perak, and subsequently, in 1921, he was appointed as Raja Bendahara and a member of the State Council.
After being appointed as Raja Muda and Vice President of the State Council in 1938, the late Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah retired from government service. The late 32nd Sultan of Perak ascended to the throne on March 31, 1948, following the passing of his uncle, the late Sultan Abdul Aziz (the 31st Sultan of Perak).
In accordance with the provisions of the Perak State Constitution, it is stipulated that the Sultan must be chosen and appointed by the Perak State Council.
On January 4, 1963, to ensure the continuity of the Perak Sultanate following the passing of the late Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah, the State Council unanimously agreed to appoint the late Sultan Idris Shah II as the 33rd Sultan of Perak.
For your information, the late Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah (the 32nd Sultan of Perak) was the father of the late Sultan Azlan Shah (the 34th Sultan of Perak) and the grandfather of Sultan Nazrin Shah (the 35th Sultan of Perak). Sources and References:
