12 Jun 2019 · 3 min read · 351 ·By Freddie Aziz Jasbindar

Pulau Pangkor is one of the main tourist destinations in the state of Perak, Malaysia. It is a tropical island featuring several fascinating tourist attractions.

This island area has been well-known since 1670, when the Dutch used it as a location to unload tin ore from across the state of Perak. Before that, the area on Pulau Pangkor was said to be completely uninhabited. Only traders would stop by to rest, leading the island to be nicknamed 'Pulau Singgah' (Stopover Island).

Pulau Pangkor

How did this island get its name? The story goes that the first person to move there was an individual named Pak Pangkor along with his family. Pak Pangkor, who originated from Pantai Remis, was forced to move because his family was struggling to make ends meet and needed to relocate to continue their livelihood. It is said that the name Pulau Pangkor was taken from Pak Pangkor, who was the earliest settler there with his family. You can read the article titled
