Kampung Karyawan Malim: The First of Its Kind in Malaysia
Kampung Karyawan Malim is the first of its kind in Malaysia. It aims to bring together various types of artists, including writers, painters, musicians, and others. By gathering them here to exchange views, share artistic ideas, and create their work, it indirectly helps improve productivity and benefits the millennial generation.
The location of Kampung Karyawan Malim (KKM) is in the Lembah Gunung Tempurung, Bt 16 ½ Jalan Kampar, Gopeng. Indirectly, it has become another new tourist attraction in the state of Perak. The eight-hectare area houses several homestays based on traditional Perak house designs, such as the 'rumah kutai'. YAB Dato' Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Bin Abd Kadir officially inaugurated Kampung Karyawan Malim on March 4, 2017.
Examining the four main objectives of Kampung Karyawan Malim: first, providing space for artists from around the world to create in all forms. Second, uniting people globally through artistic works. Third, focusing on the participatory younger generation, and fourth, managing cultural, literary, and artistic events where all the 'colors' of the world are clearly visible to the heart.
Historically, such artistic concepts have been an important agenda in France for the past 200 years. The idea of establishing this art district grew in the heart of Malim Ghozali PK in 1990, after he returned from the Virginia Centre for the Creative Artist. However, it was only in 2011 that the idea could be realized when the Perak government approved the land application in Lembah Gunung Tempurung. In 2014, Malim was diagnosed with colon cancer, requiring nine inches of his colon to be removed for recovery. Alhamdulillah, Malim recovered and continued his struggle for the nation to set an international record.
For your information, Malim Ghozali PK is the winner of the 2013 S.E.A. Write Award, the most prestigious literary award in Thailand. More importantly, Malim successfully organized the World Poets Gathering in 2014 in Perak, which had a significant impact, causing the light of literature to shine brightly and be noticed by writers from Europe, the United States, China, Japan, and the Arab world.
