If you are stopping by Ipoh, your visit won't be complete without checking out these two popular and interesting spots: Gerbang Malam and the Ipoh Pasar Karat, better known as Loken.

You can surely imagine what Gerbang Malam and Pasar Karat are, right? Just mention Gerbang Malam, and every Perakian knows it, whether they are from the upper or lower reaches of Perak. The name Gerbang Malam is iconic enough to represent Ipoh. For those looking for the location of Gerbang Malam, it is situated right on Jalan Tahwil Azhar. You can use Google Maps or Waze to get the exact location if you are heading there from your current spot.

gerbang malam

Gerbang Malam operates daily, starting as early as 8 PM and ending around 3 AM. Its concept is similar to the 'uptown' markets popular in other places. There, you will find various stalls selling clothes, shoes, bags, cosmetics, toys, accessories, and much more. What's special is that there are stalls offering reflexology and foot massages. It's perfect for when your legs get tired from walking through the rows of stalls; you can just stop by to soothe those aching feet, right?

pasar karat

The Ipoh Pasar Karat, better known as Loken, is located on Jalan Horley (Gerbang Memory Lane). Loken is highly recommended for anyone visiting Ipoh. At Loken, there are various vintage items that can be purchased for personal collections and keepsakes. This place is a paradise for collectors of antiques. They act just like the 'mat salleh' (foreigners) enthusiasts! Loken is also a favorite spot for street photographers to capture beautiful moments and the bustling atmosphere between traders and visitors from various places. It is also a focal point for international tourists. Loken operates from as early as 7 AM until around 1 PM. The old location of this market was near the Lam Look King Bazaar (Jalan Laxamana) and was called Pasar Lam Looking back then because it was near that bazaar. After moving to the new location (the current one), the name stuck. Do you know a little bit about the history of the Ipoh Pasar Karat or Loken? Feel free to share information with us about its history or other interesting places in your area. Don't forget, if you visit Ipoh, make sure to drop by these two places!
