The 29th SEA Games logo was created by a Perak native from Kota Bharu, Gopeng, named Mohd Samsudin Adnan. His design was selected as the winner out of 174 entries in the logo design competition.

On July 9, 2015, the Ministry of Youth and Sports held a logo design competition for the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, which took place recently in 2017. For this purpose, the secretariat of the Kuala Lumpur 2017 29th SEA Games, under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, invited all Malaysian citizens to participate in the competition.

The purpose of the competition was to select the most suitable logo to serve as the identity and hallmark for all activities related to the Kuala Lumpur 2017 29th SEA Games. As everyone is aware, only one logo design was chosen as the winner, and what makes us proud is that the winner of the logo design competition for the Kuala Lumpur 29th SEA Games is a Perak native and an alumnus of Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (KPTM) in Ipoh. The 29th SEA Games logo was created by a Perak native from Kota Bharu, Gopeng, named Mohd Samsudin Adnan. His design was selected as the winner out of 174 entries in the logo design competition.

The official launch of the 29th SEA Games logo, which features a 'wau bulan' (moon kite) design that we see today, was officiated by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, at the Esplanade, Suria KLCC, on November 14, 2015. The selection of the 'Wau Bulan' was based on its beauty, grace, and its strength in soaring through the clouds. Furthermore, it symbolizes the uniqueness of sports striving towards greater excellence.

The combination of colors used in the logo represents the flags of all Southeast Asian nations, thereby creating the identity for Kuala Lumpur 2017. Congratulations to Mohd Samsudin Adnan, a Perak native who successfully created such a unique and beautiful SEA Games logo!
