Young Man in Kuala Kangsar Leaves Drugs Behind Through Archery

22 Feb 2018 · 2 min read · 59 ·By Freddie Aziz Jasbindar
As soon as he was released from the lock-up, he became actively involved in archery to fill his spare time. Since then, he has never looked back at the trap of drugs.

Due to peer pressure, a 23-year-old youth from Kuala Kangsar fell into drug abuse. For about two years, he lived his life shrouded in darkness and under the influence of drugs.

Hanafi, 23, had been advised many times by his parents and family, but due to a rebellious youth, he ignored them and continued to drift along with his friends in unproductive activities and drug abuse. It is true that guidance belongs to Allah and is a gift from Him. Suddenly, a realization dawned on him to stop taking the prohibited substances, but a test from Allah came to see his determination to truly change. Fate tested him once again because just a few days after expressing his desire to quit drugs, Hanafi was arrested by the police and held in a lock-up. "I really had the intention to stop, but two or three days after I expressed that desire, I was arrested and put in the lock-up. While inside, I was determined that if I got out, I would leave drugs for good," said Hanafi. Hanafi's father was the individual responsible for paying the fine to release and bail Hanafi out. Even though his son was arrested for taking prohibited substances, his father continued to care for and love him just as much as before. As soon as Hanafi was released from the lock-up, he began to actively engage in a new activity, archery, to fill his spare time. Since then, he has never looked back and has never been trapped by drugs again. Hanafi spends much of his free time on archery.

Hanafi's family and friends provided much encouragement, support, and motivation for him to remain active in archery. Many of his acquaintances do not look down on him even though they know about his past with drugs. "My relationship with friends in the archery community changed my life. Now, I enjoy training with them and have completely left behind the filth of drugs. My old friends still keep in touch with me, sometimes we hang out for a drink, but that's as far as it goes. When it's time, I go home, and when it's time, I practice archery," he said.

Based on Hanafi's story, it is proven that archery can have a positive impact on those who practice it. The conclusion that can be drawn here is that we should engage in and join recreational activities to stay sharp and healthy. Recreational activities are not only fun and can be turned into a hobby, but they can also keep the body healthy. Furthermore, if one is truly skilled in the activity, they could represent any team in any sporting event. Where there is a will, there is a way. For those who have already fallen into the trap of drugs, leave it immediately and seek advice from the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK). Credit : RBD
