Tremors and Explosion Sounds in Ipoh This Morning Not Caused by Quarrying Activities – JMG Perak
The Department of Mineral and Geoscience Malaysia (JMG) Perak confirms that the explosion sounds and tremors reported at approximately 10:30 a.m. today were not caused by quarry blasting activities. This was reported by Bernama yesterday afternoon.
JMG Perak Director, Nizarulikram Abdul Rahim, explained that quarry blasting activities are only permitted from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
“JMG Perak's inspection found that no quarry blasting was carried out at that time. Blasting activities outside of permitted hours are not allowed,” he said as quoted.
Previously, Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, informed that the police are investigating public complaints regarding the explosion sounds and tremors felt around Ipoh this morning.
A similar incident occurred on October 21 last year, where strong tremors were felt in several areas of Ipoh city — including Tasek, Stadium Perak, Meru, Falim, Manjoi, Chemor, and Sungai Siput at approximately 11:00 a.m., followed by a loud explosion sound.
To date, the cause of last year's incident remains unexplained by the authorities.
