Toh Ngah Abdul Ghaffar (Ngah Gapor), the 5th Panglima Kinta

The 5th Dato Panglima Kinta Seri Amar Bangsa DiRaja, Toh Ngah Abdul Ghaffar bin the 3rd Dato Panglima Kinta, Toh Changkat Rembiah (ca 1790 - 1815) was the Kinta District Chief who became a mystical icon for the local Malay community in his era following his mysterious disappearance. He was also known as Ngah Gapor, Toh Putih, Toh Balai Senam, and Toh Hilang Di Jalan. He governed the Kinta District with Kampung Kepayang (Fair Park, Ipoh) as his administrative center. His wife was named Anjang Neh, and they were blessed with several children, including the Orang Besar 8, the 7th Dato Panglima Kinta Seri Amar Bangsa DiRaja, Ngah Abdul Jaafar, known as Ngah Jabor (ca 1850 - 1876), and the Orang Besar 16, Toh Senongsa Seri Nara Wangsa, Itam Dewi.

He is believed to have traveled to a mysterious limestone mountain located in Tambun known as Gunung Datuk. His purpose was to seek healing. The healing ritual was performed by a shaman in a pavilion located inside the mountain.

It is believed that he vanished while the ceremony was taking place, disappearing into the hot springs area, where it is said he married a supernatural being (orang bunian) named Puteri Bendang Air Hangat.

A chair facing the Qibla, believed to be the spot where he underwent treatment, still remains inside the mountain to this day. Because of his mysterious disappearance, he was given the title Toh Hilang Di Jalan (The One Who Vanished on the Path). Main reference sources:
