Tactical Discipline Brings Luck, Victory Over JDT II a Bonus for Perak FA
The defensive strategy implemented by Perak FA head coach, Syamsul Saad, yielded fruitful results as the Kejor Yob Kejor squad brought home three full points after defeating Johor Darul Ta’zim II (JDT II) 2-1 in the 2025/26 A1 Semi-Pro League action at the Pasir Gudang City Council Stadium on Saturday.
Syamsul described the victory as a bonus, as the team's main target was only to avoid defeat and bring home at least one point from the away venue.
“We came with a mission not to lose, and I believe all the players were clear about that mission,” he emphasized when met after the match.
“However, as a result of discipline and adherence to all plans, the target of not losing was achieved, and this victory is a bonus for the team. Alhamdulillah,” he said.
In the intense match, Perak FA almost took the lead in the 22nd minute, but the goal by team captain, Kamal Arif Azrai Shaimar, was disallowed by referee Mohamad Haziq Iqmal Ayazi due to offside.
However, striker Muhammad Rafieq Al-Amzar Zulkifli finally broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute to put Perak FA in front. The visitors' joy did not last long when the hosts' import player, Celso Jose, equalized five minutes later.
Just as the second half began, Muhammad Fadhil Mohammad Azmi emerged as the visitors' hero by scoring the winning goal in the 46th minute, ensuring three valuable points belonged to Perak FA.
Commenting further on his team's approach, Syamsul admitted that he deliberately instructed his charges to play more defensively after conducting a thorough analysis of the opponent's strengths.
“We also examined JDT II's last match and found that they are indeed dangerous when launching counter-attacks. So, we could not play openly because it would have caused us to concede more goals,” he explained.
“We know the quality of JDT II. If we played openly, we would have been scored against. We had indeed studied this matter.”
Although they managed to achieve their target, Syamsul still sees room for improvement in his team's style of play.
“Nevertheless, there are several things that need to be improved because in this match we also created opportunities at the JDT II goal. Regardless, Alhamdulillah, the target of not losing was achieved,” he said.
